When Apple introduced the compact, powerful Mac Pro desktop in 2013, it looked like the company still had the best interests of pros in mind.

ROFLCOPTER

There were pros in charge of hundreds of 5-figure editing stations using obscenities on forums after that fuckin' travesty. Yeah - the new Macbook sucks donkey balls. But Apple gave up on the "creatives" and the "professionals" on June 21, 2011.

The rift this created can't be overstated: there are still people limping along on Final Cut 7 and it's been five fuckin' years. We've been through two cats, three mountains and a beach since it was a supported product and people have been trying so hard not to go to Premiere or Media Composer that they're keeping these arcane systems running. Which hasn't been that bad because the Mac Pros sold in 2011 are still faster than the ones sold today.

But yeah. Microsoft is now selling iMacs.

If Adobe wanted to cement themselves to the creatives forever, all they'd need to do is port to Linux. We'd all go.

I've known about Linux since about 2002, before Red Hat became Fedora. I became a Linux user myself around 2008 when I needed something to keep my ancient PC running because I didn't have the cash for a new one. I don't pay too much attention to Linux communities or anything, and this might be personal perception, but it seems like it becomes a little more popular every year. People seem to talk about it more and more often and every now and again they talk about Linux becoming mainstream as if it's just barely around the next corner. Digital Game Services starting to cater to Linux users is the latest little kindle to reflame that hope. Something major like Adobe announcing dedicated Linux software would probably make people in the Linux community lose their minds with excitement.

Dude, tell them that. People from Adobe always say they don't do linux ports because linux users don't buy software/are hostile towards proprietary software, which is true in both cases, but if enough people want to switch and don't because they can't buy Premiere or whatever it might not matter.

I was part of an Adobe focus group once. We spent two hours telling them "no, we really don't need you to create screenwriting software, thanks."

results were disappointing.
