When Bret Victor chastised the tech industry for not doing enough about climate change, he got messages saying basically, "Well shit. I'm in the tech industry! What can I do about it?"
So he made up a really interesting list of things - practical things - that tech companies and techies can focus on today that will have a deep impact on climate change.
These are profitable, interesting, practical solutions. No "moon shots" here. Just hard work, applied, by technologists, to specific soluble problems.
This is just fantastic!
Update: This may also be the finest presented article I have ever seen. In 25+ years, this is the first time I have seen an article truly take full advantage of the concept of hypertext. See a green number? Click on it and drag left/right. It will blow your mind. (There are lots of these hidden features in the article. That's just one example.)
I agree with this. I don't know if we can completely stop climate change from worsening, but technology can definitely help alleviate it, and technologists do have resources to do it. It's all just a matter of how they execute it and how willing they are to help.
Thanks for sharing, it's a very well conceived article which introduce nicely a lot of the important pieces of climate change.
