For fun, I looked at tiny, shitty condos near work in case this six-months-a-year shit continues.
A while back I honestly though about moving into the city. Right now I commute 35ish or so minutes, but I have an 1100 sq. ft. house on just shy of an acre. House was 72K. This is typical for the area I looked at. 1/2 that cost, no HOA, 10-15 minute commute to downtown, desirable area of town, walking distance to hipster shit, etc. Right now, the way my lot is set up, I can go outside and piss off my deck and nobody can see me. Here, I can read the neighbor's newspaper from my windows. Ultimately decided to stay put as I am almost done paying this place off.
And that, for the record, is a thousand square feet bigger than the house I share with my wife, my daughter, my motorcycle and 36 faders of Pro Tools. Redfin informed me a couple days ago that there's a 35-foot berth at the marina in the neighborhood I like for a mere $190k.
