I think part of the inconsistencies that are found in "weblog's" stem from the fact that content is expected on a daily basis. It is hard to produce quality writing daily. My favorite "blog" is by a guy named Clive Watson. Unfortunately for me, he drops a new post about once a month. But, his writing is really beautiful and tends to be on a topic I love -wine/cocktails etc.
I think if Clive was expected to produce content daily, the quality would inevitably diminish.
