I didn't know it existed until just now. It looks cheerful and quite nice.
From the article:
- Long ago Comic Sans went from being just another slightly cartoonish font to a literal punch line for would-be typography snobs: “Comic Sans walks into a bar, the bartender turns him away and says ‘We don’t serve your type’”
Now, Craig Rozynski, an Australian graphic designer based in Japan, is trying to single-handedly revive the fortunes of the much-maligned font by giving it a makeover fit for the 2010s. Internet, meet Comic Neue.
“Comic Neue aspires to be the casual script choice for everyone including the typographically savvy,” writes Rozynski on comicneue.com, where the font can be downloaded for free.
There was nothing wrong with the original Comic Sans. The "problem" is that people used it in purposes for which it was never intended. If you're writing a children's book or filling in speech bubbles, Comic Sans is a great choice. This new font seeks to be used for an entirely different purpose.
Neat, I kind of like it. Definitely an improvement over the original.
I find it fantastic compared to the original. It's neat, just like you said, and casual without being clowny like the original was. While it may not be up to the par for the comic-printing community, I think it's a good font to use on the Internet.
Yeah, I don't see it as really working (or intended to work) well in a comic book context. But it's a nice display font, and certainly could be used well.
