Interesting. I read On the Road as an 18 year old and six month later was in a VW bus on my way to live in Montana. I always knew it was based on Neal but still read it as fiction. Great book but I wonder if it would hold up if I read it now?

On the Road is not ... really ... fiction, I mean clearly this poor woman, his ex-wife, is/was in a lot of denial about Cassady. Both sides of him are partially true but I don't know the percentages. I think Kerouac has a couple of better books, but none can be topped for sheer wanderlust.
