Yes. Poor Reddit. But the article also mentions companies and technology that specialize in filtering content that matters to us. In some ways, might it be better to be inundated with data, as long as our filters can accurately and efficiently identify the information that is likely to capture our interest? But then again, what about those random chance encounters? Those links you almost didn't click on, but for some reason did, and then it opened you up to some whole new world? Hmm...
But the article didn't just point out problems with viewing content, but sharing content. If everyone is filtering content from hundreds of people, you'll get different people responding to what you share every time, which is where the lack of a sense community comes from.

I agree, I actually follow a lot of people here on hubski and don't mind all the data. I can generally tell by the title/teaser for a post if I want to read it. The key for me is to actually read/watch every post fully. Half reads/views do nothing but create mental noise. I imagine that as hubski grows more, I will edit my follow list in a more nuanced way. But... I do like those "random chance encounters". -Were it not for them, I would know absolutely nothing about partical physics. As it is now, I know a little less than absolutely nothing... which is an improvement :)
