“Roughly five million Americans own AR-style semiautomatic rifles,” Justice Thomas wrote, referring, he said, to “modern sporting rifles.”

“The overwhelming majority of citizens who own and use such rifles do so for lawful purposes, including self-defense and target shooting,” Justice Thomas wrote. “Under our precedents, that is all that is needed for citizens to have a right under the Second Amendment to keep such weapons.”

So, according to Justice Scal... ahem, excuse me... Justice Thomas' reasoning, therefore, more than 2,500,001 American semi-automatic rifle owners would have to use their weapons in an unlawful way for the Supreme Court to consider a ban on these types of weapons.

Very interesting precedent he sets there, that "a majority" of owners would have to show negligence to move the Supreme Court to action.

What if we used that measure to determine the amount of lead we would allow in the public water supply? Or that manufacturers of cars needed to include seat belts, or turn indicators, or brake lights, or headlights?

"The majority of law-abiding citizens do not drive around at night, therefore headlights are not required in all new vehicles."

Hm....
