Oh I'm loving it, I would never have expected to enjoy the books without the visual component of the shows. But damn, GRRM has amazing writing chops.

He gets wrapped around the wheel at times - 20 pages burned at banquets, endless wanderings by Brienne of Tarth, etc. I'd argue that the HBO dramatization of Dance with Dragons kicks the shit out of GRRM's version simply because it condenses a lot of tedious bullshit into quick, tight plot points and eliminates entire subplots that are nearly impossible to give a shit about.

But yeah. Game of Thrones was the series that convinced me that fiction was worth writing.

Here's hoping they manage to find an editor that can whip him into shape for the remain books. Dance was terribly bloated and would have been a better work had it been filleted before serving.

I enjoy the banquets, but yeah, I hope Brienne improves in the next book. Her character is too static and while Jamie's chapters show his slight growth past being a selfish dick, her behavior really hasn't changed at all.
