Thanks. Good luck with the 5 miles. It was a major moment for me when I got to 5, no small thing when you're first starting out.

unsolicited advice #1: If you're serious about running, I'd suggest signing up for some races. They are a good way to keep you focused towards a goal and a date. Perhaps a 5k to start. They're a lot of fun and pretty inexpensive. -The great part of running as a sport -cheap.

unsolicited advice #2: I run 3 times a week: first run 3 miles(ish), skip day, second run 3 miles(ish), skip day, weekend long run - 5-8miles(ish)

unsolicited advice #3: Find a run partner that will hold you accountable to go, preferably someone better at running than you.

[edit] And best of luck with getting published! That's an amazing goal to set. Make it happen.

Thanks for the advice! I've been at 3 miles for a few years now, working up the speed at which I can do it as well as being able to handle inclines, but there's always been some large block of schoolwork that'll get in the way and set me back to square run. I'll look into a 5k run for the summer though, apparently the nearby cities have some, that would be great!
