I went through US Army basic training in 1999. Most of the drill sergeants had served in Desert Storm. One of them told us he'd taken a bunch of pictures of destruction like this, including dead Iraqis. He eventually found them horrific and threw them all away. They also explained, separately, that when it comes to war, an enemy soldier is either surrendering or a target. Running away from you does not mean stop shooting. I'm pretty thankful I never deployed.
