Oh man, this job. I spent the first two days of this week working on a pathfinder spreadsheet. I told myself it was because I can be a little obsessive and just needed to get it out of my system, but the truth was that I had no real idea of what to do next. I was stalled. Today, I had two meetings back to back. I proposed the next three steps of my plan. The first step requires little effort, people just send me the training plans they have and I translate them to a standard format. The second step requires them to write out documentation of every "course" in their plan, a moderately tedious process but not terrible. The third step was to have them write out every tedious step of every lesson in every course so that I could put it into a learning management system. I plotted the last two steps just to sell the first idea, to prove that I had somewhere to go if they would just help me out a little. In both meetings, the people were so ecstatic that someone was tackling the training problem that they committed to all three steps. That'll give me enough data to sell my site. With what they've committed to give, I can put meat on my skeleton and present it to top brass to get funding. I KNOW I can sell this idea, but not as some ethereal plan I have in the back of my mind. My coworkers have come together to help me flesh this idea out and give it the weight it needs to be viable. I'm still so stunned and so thankful for this day.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy. I can see what it is I'm trying to build and I have been since I got here. But so few things go as planned and trying to get everyone else to share in the vision is so much more crazy complicated than I thought. It's wonderful.
I'm not entirely sure, and Isherwood is welcome (and encouraged) to tell me I'm wrong but I think it may be 'pathfinding' in the same sense as the find a path subreddit where people can seek out advice on careers, life planning etc. So this would be a website which can help people find a path and begin training within that? Or is that a seperate thing entirely? Ish, maybe subscribe to #sellingwithtng and see if he'll help you refine your pitch. I would definitely recommend reading this deconstruction of Elon Musk's presentation and remember: you do not have to have a working product or feature set for a product, but do be truthful about the status of it and show visually where you want to take it.
Oh, no, sorry. I just got into the D&D style game, pathfinder. I was making a spreadsheet for my character to make leveling and remembering spells easier. I'm glad that I have enough of a reputation that it could be considered as a cool thing though.
