Are their restrictions on gun ownership valid though? I remember reading that they had a noticeable effect on the number of violent crimes with a firearm , and the number of stolen firearms.

I honestly don't know. Like I said elsewhere in this thread, I don't have that big of a dog in this fight. I can try to look it up real quick though.

Edit: Would it be considered rude to just toss this here at you? I'm pretty tired and I'm having trouble making sense of what's being said.

I just read that part of the article. There seem to be a lot of conflicting voices. One side says that the laws had some effect, while others say they really had no effect on the weapons black market, and firearm suicide.

To be honest I think education like in most other circumstances would probably be the best solution. Too many people that I know treat guns like they are just some toy.
