In my lifetime:
First, Pluto was a planet, had always been as far as I knew. Then, Pluto was not a planet, and an uproar was had. Now, NASA has sent mechanical creatures to Pluto in order to investigate, which report back to Earth with its findings, causing excitement in many people.

Imagine if you had launched a probe to a planet, and while it was on the way there (nine years), the scientific community decided that it was a dwarf planet. Because that's what happened to New Horizons. I mean, it's all arbitrary, but slightly insulting.
