I use tildes "~~~" a lot to break up some colloquial and light-hearted text instead of harsh full stops, or bland dashes; but then many comments become spoiler-black-bared..
I'd love to be able to switch a setting to ignore all formatting rules and have a reverse-escape character if I want formatting, which I \* sometimes \* do...
I guess I understand what you mean, but would this add an unnecessary level of complexity to our already weirdly hacked together markdown solution? I'll add it to the list. In my opinion, the code blocks (multiple spaces) shouldn't be styled at all. They should present whatever is typed exactly as is. BUT. People like using the codeblocks for things like poetry and then they like the bolds and italic. I'm putting it on my list as "Give users the ability to escape a section of text, rather than a single character." So maybe something like: \e{ un-styleable text goes here }
This would also be handy for things like poetry or song-lyrics, which are a huge PITA to share because the line breaks are lost unless you massage the text.
Does the quote block or the space-space work? Testing:This should have asterisks around it
Guess not. This also should have asterisks around it
