I listened to Donuts because of this post, very glad I did! Thank you galen. Wow it's quite a trip of an album, so many different sounds, sometimes it feels like I'm listening to the radio (except better). It even has a Frank Zappa sample! The short-form nature of the songs means they have less conventional structure than I'm used to as a mainly rock/metal listener, but I really enjoyed it. It felt like an eclectic smattering of different sonic experiments. I've been into Death Grips for a little while and I feel like J Dilla could have been an influence on them perhaps? Is there anything similar to this that you would recommend, that has slower tempo/beats? Fave tracks so far:
Check out Nujabes: eightbitsamurai introduced me to him and I think you'd really dig his work. It's not necessarily slower in tempo, but aesthetically it feels slower to my ear.
