I've always loved this footage, especially watching all of them around a mic recording the backing vocals. If you don't have time to watch all 15 minutes, just check it out at about the 10 min mark. So amazing!
the #beatles tag gets some use around here. It's time we started the #rollingstones tag too.
Awesome footage. Wikipedia says the backing vocals scene was staged, but it doesn't offer a citation. I found this on Last.FM, seems to be the source:
- Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts, producer Jimmy Miller, Wyman and Richards can be seen performing backup vocals in the film Sympathy for the Devil by Jean-Luc Godard, but this scene was staged specially for the cameras; the actual backing vocals were overdubbed by Jagger, Richards and Miller.
However, I also found this:
- The "Whoo-Whoo" backing vocals were added when Richard's girlfriend, Anita Pallenberg, did it during a take and the Stones liked how it sounded. Pallenberg sang this on the record along with Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman, Marianne Faithfull and Jimmy Miller. (thanks, Rich - Midland Park, NJ)

You know, I have no idea who is right. scrimetime, do you know?
Either way, it's cool footage and the result of whatever method was used sounds great. I love them playing this live though and seeing how they engineered the room. B-a-d A-s-s!
