I used to get all bent out of shape when commercials exploited deep emotions for crass purposes ("be a good dad! Buy our useless fucking car!"). Then I went on facebook and realized that new marketing amounts to, "hey, I noticed you mentioned girdles in your totally private e-mail. Here's a shitty picture of a girdle. Buy it."

Now I appreciate the fact that ad men at least have to employ some artistic sense to shill their shit. Dying art form, that.

OTOH, a browser plugin can prevent you from seeing ads on the Internet. You're going to see the ad man's artistry if you watch TV. I much prefer the advertising I don't see to the advertising I do.
