There is an older guy who comes into my work. Whenever I play older rap, soul or R&B he always takes a moment to thank me and shake my hand for playing good music from his youth. If he's in I'll always try and throw on at least one old school album. About a month ago I tossed on a Curtis Mayfield album, I picked in haste as I'm not a real big fan (don't love his albums but he was a super important producer) but I already had a soul groove going for this older fella and it was the first thing I saw. After a few tracks he comes up and extends his hand. "Thanks for playing Curtis, my name is Richard Mayfield, and Curtis was my uncle." He told me a bunch of stories about his uncle and all the musicians he met when he was a young man, it was a treat.
