The tech industry has fully embraced the ethos that it is better to ask for forgiveness later than permission first. That can be good advice in some circumstances. People's privacy is not one of them. Its terribly immoral, and it's the norm.

Furthermore, people don't even realize the privacy barriers that are being broken. Internet companies are taking advantage of customers who don't care about the TOS.
