But the caveat is that oversight and leadership can mitigate this effect.... if the leader sets a good example, and there are consequences for not following the good example, then everyone can stay on the straight and narrow. Authority figures can cause people below them to do evil. And the mitigation is to have authority figures over the authority figures.

So simple, it just might work.
