Very tangential, but I have been noticing more recently that my phone is showing reception, but not connecting to shit. Switching airplane mode on and off typically fixes the issue. It's likely an AT&T thing, but I have to wonder if IMSI use could be the culprit at times, especially in Detroit.
Stingrays are a lot more specific and a lot more laborious than just pulling it all at the trunk. If there's someone with a stingray around, that means there's someone nearby considered high profile enough for the FBI or DEA to do a truck roll. Far more likely, your phone is connecting to a tower, but there's so much data flowing through the cellular network that the tower puts you on "hold" to get back to the mothership. This is pretty much Los Angeles from 3:30pm until 6pm M-F. AT&T has a saturated network in particular. If only there were some way to bring usage down.
Yeah, I would put my money on that, but it is an interesting neighborhood. Ironically, that Forbes article featured an auto-playing video pop-up.Far more likely, your phone is connecting to a tower, but there's so much data flowing through the cellular network that the tower puts you on "hold" to get back to the mothership.
