As a long time Detroit area resident who has love for the city of Detroit, and has followed Detroit politics from afar for the last ten years, I think emergency management might not be a terrible thing for the city. With the exception of Mayor Archer and Mayor Bing, most of the leadership in the city has been corrupt of incompetent to an extent which is hard for an outsider to understand. Bing seems ethical, but is probably in over his head. You could consider that a criticism of Bing if you didn't know what he was up against.
I dislike contracts being remade by nondemocratic managers, but I also think that the general welfare of the citizens of the city needs to be a first priority. It's a hateful messy situation. What my relatives tell me about he Gov is that he is way more moderate then he has been portrayed and that for lifelong democrats they don't find him all that satanic.
