Wasn't really digging it until about 2:40, then I realized that this reminds me a bit of Crystal Castles (fun fact: most people in Chiptune scenes do not like this band on a personal level) mixed with some witch-house and a gnarly chip melody thrown over for good measure. Never heard this band before, thanks for sharing them!
all their ablums are free and can be grabbed from their website http://theplaguesequence.com/ and it's at shit bitrates but that doesn't matter much for simple waveforms like this anyway, good to hear you liked it, you should circledot me ;) i also enjoy crystal castles (however controversial that may be?) and i'd be interested to hear you elaborate on why they're disliked. is it personal stuff or chiptune puritanism? also, i don't really see the witch house influence here. their discography as a whole is rather poppy and punky. i get more of a lightweight atr feeling. (i posted them previously under #synthpunk though i don't know how i feel about that now)
Since Witch House describes everything from Mater Suspiria Vision to You Love Her Coz She's Dead now, it might as well apply to this too. As a label, it's expanded into meaninglessness the same way goth did, but much faster. So it goes with genres that describe an aesthetic or scene more than the form of the music. It really would be more convenient if we'd just say "malcontents who like three or more of: electronics, red, black, purple, spooky imagery, reverberation, minor scales, extended vocal techniques, distortion, or clipping, please stand on the left."
As a sound the drums reminded me a bit of oOoOO, hence why I said that. However, you bring up a very interesting - microgenres. Goth notwithstanding, it's hard for a genre like witch house, chillwave, vaporwave, and other microgenres to hold up and maintain whatever meaning they started with. As soon as more people become aware of the sound everything gets distorted and it's hard to hold up when the base of these genres are already flimsy at best.
Nope, I don't think that I have made this comment before? It'd be funny if that was the case though. Circledot...shudders, that reminds of the time SRS was all over the place here. That website is awful and all I want to know is where this band is from but that information is apparently nonexistent. I'm a Crystal Castles fan, but there's been multiple instances where they've straight up copied or stole. I don't think I've met any purists, but it's a pretty tight knit community for such a small genre of music. As in, like everybody on the East Coast is at least aware of each other to the second or third degree and nobody makes money off this stuff except Anamaguchi so it becomes a big deal when something like the Crystal Castles fiasco happens. See also: Part B in that link. The drum beat reminds me of some witch-house but in reality it's the same beat used in a ton of different genres, was just the first thing that came to mind.
