I can't get into the website right now. It seems to be undergoing some maintenance. However, ALS can present itself in different ways in different people. The average person with ALS dies within five years. They can no longer breathe. I was regularly visiting a close friend with ALS. One of his friends, met through a support group, had had ALS for 20 years. Some people might only have their mobility affected. In some people, it plateaus. I'll check the article tomorrow and see what Scientific American says.
