Frankly, given the recent ruling, redefinition is the only way we'd be able to get any relief from the current status quo. I think the data backbones should be reclassified as "basic" while services like web hosting are spun off, though the carriers can still offer both.

I agree, and they could potentially 'tier' the levels of internet -- no reason for 500 mb/s to be basic, but your run of the mill $29.99 a month plan certainly could (or should) be.

Mmm, I think that all information backbones just need to be common carriers and neutral, -straight up. In this day and age internet connectivity is just as essential as phone lines once were, -arguably more.

Internet connectivity is important, speeds at which you can download four movies in ten minutes aren't, at least outside of the university/institution of science area.
