Steve, I would possibly change the cymbal hits from every 3 seconds to 6 (so skip a time) or maybe not have them at all. I focused on them and I think my focus indicates they shouldn't be there, who knows. I tried a similar drum beat a few times and kept going back to a straight forward beat that let the music stand out, rather than the drums trying to help the music stand out/ have dynamics (if this makes sense). I like the kick drum at the 1:08 mark (especially with the shaker accompanying it).
I hear ya on the cymbals. I think not having them at all might be a good thing. Thanks Jonas! Edit: As for the drums leading the song, I'm not under the impression that the song is "done". Therefore, my hope is that the next parts are able to make the drums seem justified, if that makes sense.
