This strikes me as a brilliant setting for an "apocalyptic future" novel.

It was called Waterworld.

No, it didn't make sense.

Rising sea levels also play a part in Paolo Bacugalupi's Clock Work Girl.

Yeah but if I recall that movie was even more unrealistic than it had to be and also terrible.

That second one looks like something I would read, although I question the legitimacy of the word biopunk.

Question the fuck out of the word "biopunk" because it's a stupid word. Basically all the technology in Clockwork Girl is bred because something something energy crunch. You either roll with it or you don't. I recommend "roll with it" as the book is every bit as immersive as Neuromancer was backintheday.

The problem with Waterworld is it cost too much by a factor of 1000. It was never intended to be a big budget blockbuster - it was supposed to be another Steel Dawn. Imagine it cheap and shitty and starring Jan Michael Vincent instead of Kevin Costner and it'd be awesome and you know it.

I'll keep an eye out for it, then. The, uh, biopunk novel.
