It appears as though Oprah has a misunderstanding of what atheism is. It is not a complete lack of spirituality or faith, but a skepticism or rejection of an overarching figure behind everything. It's almost as if hearing a different argument of atheism just wasn't clicking with what she thinks atheism is.

Atheism, literally "without god." That's all that atheism is: a lack of belief in a god or gods. Some people do not understand how someone could have spiritual beliefs or hold a person of the past in high regard for their teachings without being a theist.
