My roommate in college had one. I rode from Ann Arbor to Missoula MT in it. Pictured here -literally the day I left. They are wonderful cars, we slept in it, camped in it etc. It basically had a full kitchen and was really comfortable. The old split windows are really slick looking, but the vanagan pop-up campers are sweet. What model did you own?
I had Vanagon but not the pop up camper version. I also had the factory manual which basically covered every nut and bolt on it. It was easily my favorite vehicle ever to work on. Everything was easily reachable with standard tools and not so complex that you couldn't diagnose problems without a computer.
A neighbor down the street had a VW bus for sale when I was in high school. I always went past it and though about buying it. I mean I think VW bugs are a real cool van, and I'd have been riding in style with wheels like that in high school! Alas, I never did buy it.
If you ever pick up the desire to own one again, get one of the old split window bus' They just look super cool imo.
