A socially planned economy would restore prestige to academia and expand its opportunities, I'm sure.

Panopticon  ·  3402 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Poll - What religion are you Hubski?

This doesn't seem to be a good method for polling people!

Privatise the oceans and skies. The markets will correct for any overproduced products, such as poor people.

Beer. The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.

Panopticon  ·  3430 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: 5% of New York cops turn in 40% of "resisting arrest" cases

According to the FBI website, New York has 35,000 officers and 15,000 civilian employees. Office workers are already discounted from the article's statistics. You're wrong.

Panopticon  ·  3437 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: 5% of New York cops turn in 40% of "resisting arrest" cases

I'm not sure what you mean by "non-arresting or non-active police officers".

It has specific connotations which "for men" doesn't (sexualisation, objectification etc)

Out of control.

Panopticon  ·  3531 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Doubts cast on witness's account of black man killed by police in Walmart

Police love to poison the well after they murder people, they know the powers that be will let things pass if they have an excuse to cling to.

Panopticon  ·  3542 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Police let their dog urinate on Michael Brown memorial, then drove over it

They are barbarians, by which I mean a warlike, tribal society.

Panopticon  ·  3546 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Pleading suspect dies in police custody: 'You can breathe just fine'

Now I'm not saying Americans should abduct and murder off duty police officers, but maybe something should be done about this kind of thing?

Original one? Cmon, at least get the history right.

Panopticon  ·  3562 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: NLPD: Non-Libertarian Police Department

One could say that stealing half of someone's money is the moderate position (in comparison to stealing their whole wallet) but I was led to believe libertarianism is based on a fundamental moral belief. Inconsistent is a nice, polite word for this, I guess.

Panopticon  ·  3566 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: NLPD: Non-Libertarian Police Department

About the statement from the opening paragraph: "as if libertarians object to the state enforcing property rights" - why do libertarians accept state monopoly over the property rights industry, but disapprove of other state industries? If the basis of libertarianism is a moral one (such as the oft-cited non-aggression principle), isn't this an outright moral failing on the part of libertarians? Shouldn't they disapprove of all infringements upon property rights (taxation)?

The coins being sold off like this will probably contribute to confidence in Bitcoin.

A history of liberation theologians being persecuted by the mainstream of the Catholic church, yes.

Neither do clergymen. I suppose the priest is the natural ally of the socialist?

Panopticon  ·  3675 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Trouble in Freetown: Twelve Predictable Disasters in the Libertarian Paradise

Sounds like a real good argument for socialism whichever way you look at it.

Panopticon  ·  3675 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: "SAVE A LIFE, KILL A COP" flyers distributed in Albuquerque newspapers

The relation of an organisation to the state defines whether it is working class or not, and the police exist to suppress the consciousness of the working class. They terrorise minorities and infiltrate leftist groups. Any "anarchist" who supports the police is likely a middle class white man that has never been in close contact with them.

Well that's different, those weren't white people.

Capitalist firms seek to maximise profit by focusing on exchange value. Whether or not their customer's use value is increased is entirely incidental to the process.

It wasn't "ranting". The housewives analogy was quite striking, and if most interns are female it's empirically justified to look at through a feminist lens.

They haven't even been convicted? Shouldn't habeus corpus prevent this kind of abuse? I don't know much about this because in the UK you don't need money to get bail.

Panopticon  ·  3716 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: SOS Venezuela

Given what we know about American involvement in the 2002 coup against Chavez and the current instability in the Ukraine it seems likely the CIA etc are involved in this Venezuelan instability too. The latest Snowden files show the NSA is heavily involved in propaganda over the Interent. I'd guess Maduro is telling the truth (just as many government employees and pro-government civilians have been killed as anti-government protesters so I'd guess most of the violence is by agents provocateurs on American payroll).

Panopticon  ·  3717 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Just Right Inequality

Well they would tend to be organised over Facebook and the like, and we've seen that the American state has its finger in every pie in that regard.
