Just tried to submit this. Sat for a couple minutes trying to figure out what to tag it, settled on goodlongread, and hey presto here I am. Very unsettling piece. mk, when you submit a duplicate link it doesn't redirect you, it just puts up a message. I'm assuming this is because you don't want to completely discourage reposts (something I kinda disagree with but understand) -- however, an optional link to the prior submission would still be nice in lieu of a forced redirect.
It was my understanding that duplicates have always been allowed because the same article can easily raise different discussions. I guess I'm wrong. Either way, there are some situations, like this one, where I'm clearly not going to submit something that insom submitted a few hours ago, and it's a bit odd that a) the duplicate message shows up in the post box, and b) there's no link to the other post. So I think that instead a little message pop-up should say "this is a duplicate, you can submit it anyway, here's a link to the other post." Thoughts?
