Very cool find. If I had a spare $11k I would definitely pony it up for this. I imagine it will be worth well over that someday. -an investment that will only appreciate.
That is pretty awesome. You wonder if the guy didn't work out, or if he never replied to the letter. Either way, his loss.

The letter is intriguing as a lost piece of history. A potentially enormous opportunity passed up. The tooth is just creepy. I imagine two very different types of people bidding on these items. -I could be wrong though. I have no interest in Johns tooth, not sure why anyone would.

To me, they have differences and similarities. The differences, you've covered, so I won't. They are similar in that they're both objects that are intimately connected to the Beatles. One happens to be a product of thought and the other a product of biology. In either case, the object serves a reminder of, and a connection to, the past. I think the appeal of many artifacts from history is that when you look at them or hold them, you feel you are in some way sharing an experience with the creator; knowing what they knew or feeling how they felt, perhaps. I think for that reason some collectors might bid on either item. But, the big overriding factor why I wouldn't bid on the tooth is that it is gross.

One of the objects is intimately connected to the Beatles, the other is a tooth. The way I see it, I can imagine either John Lennon or Paul McCartney bidding at auction on a letter Chuck Berry wrote to Elvis Presley (lets imagine this exists). I would be shocked if either of them bought Chuck Berry or Elvis' tooth. Why? Because as you put it, "it is gross".
I understand the "reminder of the past" part but I'm much more interested in an object that is a creation of theirs representing a moment in history. -Just my take on how I'd spend my $11k... by all means, have the tooth :)
