Do you play? If not, why not? What's your favorite? Which is your least favorite? What would you recommend? Multiplayer or campaign/single player?
There are a plethora of questions that I could ask, but I suppose that's good for now. So pick a question :D
P.S. If any of you guys play Team Fortress 2, I'd love some tips for getting started ;) At the moment I suck majorly. Got my ass handed to me </3
I regularly play games of various genres, including RPGs (such as Skyrim, Horizon Zero Dawn), quests (such as LA Noir), sandboxes (such as Minecraft, The Sims 4) and strategies (Civilization, Europe Universalis). The last game that dragged me on for a long time was the 3D sandbox Realmcraft. I didn't even expect that a free copy of Minecraft would turn out to be so high-quality. I advise everyone to try playing it.
I don't know if this is the right place to type this out but I haven't really articulated it yet and I've been looking for an opportunity, so yeah. I seem to have trouble finishing video games. This issue comes up entirely too often since I am constantly yearning to beat the games that I really loved. But I never will and I'm very mad at myself for this. Rather than enjoy the games I have, I search for new experiences, toy with them, then throw them to the side in search of newer experiences. I have piles of partially played games that I swore I would finish. Maybe this speaks to my personality. I always tend to see the people who are finishing games as more passionate and driven people. Whilst me and my friends who act the same as I do with games are usually the lazy ones. I'm too high to proofread, sorry.
The same thing used to happen to me until I got an account on The Backloggery. It really spurred me to beat my unfinished games.
Favourite video game? Hard to say. I think one of them has to be Red Dead Redemption, that game is terrific in every aspect. I might follow that with one of the Halo series, I have a special place in my heart for that game as Halo: Combat Evolved was the first game I ever owned. Although I like multiplayer, I say a good singleplayer campaign is better than any online multiplayer play. If a game has replay value, and a finely crafted single player experience, I say it wins hands down. I recently finished Dishonored, thoroughly enjoyed it (though it was cheesy at times). But in terms of gameplay, can't wait to play through it again. Same goes for Portal (both 1 and 2) - perfect game! Onto TF2: Don't worry! It's a fast paced game and really hard to pick up at the start. I'd advise starting as the Soldier class, it's just jump around, run, aim, shoot, repeat. After you get the hang of that and manage at least a 1:1 kill / death ratio per life start messing around with other classes. You'll soon find one for you! Also: Play it often. Nobody gets good at something in a day, and although with games it can seem different because of tutorials, the TF2 tutorial and online play are so different it's impossible to be ready straight away without time playing online!
I have to say, the Halo series is my favorite, hands down. First game I ever owned was Halo: Combat Evolved. I prefer multiplayer over campaigns and such, although it may just be the kind of person that I am. I'll play through it for the achievements, then I'm done. Same with books, I can never buy a book because no matter how much I love it, reading it twice isn't an option. I just play through the whole book in my head as soon as I start reading and ruin the experience for myself. I guess you could say I'm always looking for a new thrill. TF2 is a pain in the butt to learn. I personally don't like the controls much, specifically, switching your weapon. The scroll thingy would have been fine if you didn't have to click afterwards, but I always forget to click. I would much rather prefer something like Minecraft's scroll to choose or how you can choose a number 1-9 and it will choose the corresponding item on your hotbar. Thanks for the tips by the way, I just recently got destroyed in a game, but I did better than before went something like 6 and 15. >.< I swear I'll do better one day.
Go into options and enable fast weapon switching, and you won't have to bother with the clicking. Also, try playing as Medic - it's fairly simple, you'll learn a lot by watching others, and it's a very helpful class most of the time.
That makes perfect sense! I know with a lot of games it's like that, but a perfectly crafted singleplayer can make me replay it again and again! Ah, you get used to it. Got my ass kicked so much at the start, was getting about 1 kill to every 10 deaths or something. I sucked. Now I can come out with a positive kill/death ratio... most the time! You get used to the system of scrolling too, just takes practice man!
I hate having to actually work. Can't I play some COD and just spray?
Yea, well, I just got destroyed playing TF2, "practicing". But anyways, thanks, I still have no idea how to play, but at least I'm getting somewhere.
Ah, you'll get better even if it is infuriating! Join the Hubski Steam Group, and once I fix my shitty laptop I'll play with you some time! I'm down as MadreDios there too.
Already joined. Although it's stupid that I can't add friends unless I buy something. Guess this is my chance to buy Portal.
Turns out that I can't add friends, but I can accept them. Somewhat better I guess.
I am now addicted to Freespace Open. They have done an amazing job with 10 year old engine (it now looks like a game released a year ago), and the amount of quality user-made mods and campaigns is enough to keep you entertained for months. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeSpace_2_Source_Code_Project I also highly enjoyed the Mass Effect series and Metro 2033.
I've been playing video games ever since I was a child. Favourites are difficult, but I love Zelda and the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games. I played quite a lot of TF2 about two years ago, but only drop in now and then these days. I made quite a lot of friends in those days, and they're still around, playing TF2. Lately, my main multiplayer game is Killing Floor. Single player, I've been playing Cthulhu Saves the World; before that, it was Zeno Clash (another favourite). I've bought a bunch of games during the Steam sale I can't wait to get into, but I know I need to cut down my gaming; I have other, more important things to be doing. By the way, there's a Hubski Steam group up now.
1. Hello hello first things first: Yes, TF2, love it. Love the game, and I could give you plenty of tips, but before that, you should definitely give the TF2 coaching system a shot. It's hit or miss, but when you get a good coach, they're great. 2. And in answers to your questions:
Do I play? Yes, because it makes me happy (+ more reasons than I can get into now) There's a three-way tie for favorite but the honor of least favorite goes to Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. What to recommend depends on what YOU like, so I'll present you the same question. Multiplayer or campaign? First person, third, or bird's eye? Etc etc etc...
What exactly IS the coaching system? And multiplayer, definitely. And fps etc doesn't really concern me. Anything with a nice multiplayer is good for me.
Then focus on TF2 for now. Find your favorite class(es) and go from there. As for coaching, it's essentially letting someone else ride around in your head while you play and giving you tips. The official wiki does a pretty good job of explaining it.
Online FPS and MMORP where players can kill each other have kind of spoiled me. Games that don't have human opponents capable of kicking my ass just can't compete or hold my interest any longer. Whether its Chess at a table, or Black Ops II online, I just need the challenge of a human brain trying to beat me.
This goes for me as well, although it can be relaxing once in a while with some rpg/pve. Still, those games tend to get boring after a while. Unless it's a well written rpg, I definitely need some human challenge.
I love TF2. Just think of all those sexy sexy hats. I have 1000+ hours, and I've only had the game for a few months. I highly recommend getting premium. It's an entirely different game. Don't ever craft weapons, you can usually trade someone 1 srap metal for whatever you're looking for. In fact, I can do this for you. Here is my steam account if you want to add me as your friend: http://steamcommunity.com/id/captainenchilada/ Other things I enjoy are Minecraft (Alpha was the best version without stupid items like fireworks/potatoes) in singleplayer, or on servers without 12 year olds spamming the chat. I also like Far Cry 3, and anything Nintendo from before 2005-ish.
What's the difference between the free version and the premium version? o_O I would definitely add you if I knew how xD I'm trying to get the hang of Steam, not really much of a PC gamer, XBOX all the way <3 Can't get enoough of Halo.
Minecraft is one of my favorite PC games. Like you said, sandbox games just never get old, but I prefer playing with people, not alone. Having to collaborate with someone to get the work done in Minecraft makes it more enjoyable for me.
I was actually looking for some buddies to keep me interested in Minecraft, everyone I know has gone into a more or less hiatus. I'll check out the servers :3
nerd.nu is a group of 3 reddit owned servers. They have a PvP, a PvE, and a creative server. I personally use the PvP server mostly because I like surviving without fighting other players. I go on the creative one once in a while to see some of the cool stuff they build.
