Yes, only alphadigs and no spaces for tags. There are a couple of reasons, but the main one is to limit the redundancy when using tags to discover. This matters a bit more now with community tags, where #acidjazz or #acid-jazz are essentially the same tag, but different. Of course, we can try to account for all that, but I don't think the complexity is worth the gain. Actually, I'll be rolling out a site-specific search function in the next day or so, and it will even matter more there, as you can search for tags with it.
Isn't that just because a tag can only be one word? #write better dammit# won't work but #writebetterdammit will.
I'm pretty sure it's only alpha with no punctuation. Not saying it shouldn't be allowed, just that it currently isn't. Why not just use #triphop?
