Looked to me like Antifa started throwing shit first but not that it matters, both sides were there to fight. My take is that the cops sent the Proud Boys down a rout where Antifa was gathered, might be a fuck up, might have been on purpose and they predictably got it on. Your average Portland cop hates both sides but they probably hate Antifa more (because they've had to deal with their shit more). Officers that I know have said that command and control at protest has been getting better lately but that it's pretty confusing when you have multiple groups and the public moving around in different areas and directions.
I guess you have some preconceptions about "effete homo's" that you should shed. Lots of people aren't readdy to play victim anymore. I've never lived anywhere that people carried knives as much as this town. I don't care how Proud a Boy you are, a few inches on steel will crimp your style. Get gay bashed once and the 2nd amendment and a CCP looks pretty good. You go far enough left and things get pretty militent.
