The hits just keep on coming...
- The disclosures about the contacts came as new questions were raised about Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s ties to the Russians. According to a former senior American official, he met with the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak, twice in the past year. The details of the meetings were not clear, but the contact appeared to contradict testimony Mr. Sessions provided Congress during his confirmation hearing in January when he said he “did not have communications with the Russians.”
From the sister piece: Can someone tell me how/why this isn't being considered as perjury by everyone? It seems pretty black and white. And Representative Mealworm, the Utah Republican who leads the House Oversight Committee, said on Twitter on Thursday, “ AG Sessions should clarify his testimony and recuse himself.”
I would say that Chaffetz even mentioning that Sessions should recuse himself is shocking, considering how low they've set the bar. I'm sure it's perjury by the letter of the law, but give the guy a break--it's not like he lied about getting his dick sucked or anything. It's only national security.
So we agree that morality can be relative, but not (this) selective.
So... What the hell was Putin thinking? This utter failure of an administration seems like something he didn't plan for... unless that, in some crazy-ass way, is his plan... to destabilize the US, maybe? "Can't beat the king fairly, then kill him"?
Putin is a pretty smart guy. Not sure he can lose here. Either he gets what he wants, which is sanctions relief in the short term and a return to the Great Powers system in the longer term, or he at least gets to say that America is no better than Russia; we're all corrupt. I'm not sure he sees a downside with Trump no matter what the outcome. Trump of already on record saying that we're the same, and is also on record questioning NATO, the EU, and other international cooperation organizations. To some extent part of Putin's mission is already accomplished.
Which is bullshit, considering that he was the one to corrupt the US in the way he can point out to. Is that even possible? Trump's administration is getting bashed in all the wrong places for things Trump and his goons do. People in the US on all levels protest the shit those nutcrackers do; some - even with the power to overturn it. How will it ever get to the point where sanctions are to be lifted or even eased? If all of that is true, I give Putin credit for being a schemer and a powermonger, but smart? He's dumber than a tin can if he thinks this is what politics and international relationships is about.or he at least gets to say that America is no better than Russia; we're all corrupt
Either he gets what he wants
