So... What the hell was Putin thinking? This utter failure of an administration seems like something he didn't plan for... unless that, in some crazy-ass way, is his plan... to destabilize the US, maybe? "Can't beat the king fairly, then kill him"?

Putin is a pretty smart guy. Not sure he can lose here. Either he gets what he wants, which is sanctions relief in the short term and a return to the Great Powers system in the longer term, or he at least gets to say that America is no better than Russia; we're all corrupt. I'm not sure he sees a downside with Trump no matter what the outcome. Trump of already on record saying that we're the same, and is also on record questioning NATO, the EU, and other international cooperation organizations. To some extent part of Putin's mission is already accomplished.

Which is bullshit, considering that he was the one to corrupt the US in the way he can point out to.

Either he gets what he wants

Is that even possible? Trump's administration is getting bashed in all the wrong places for things Trump and his goons do. People in the US on all levels protest the shit those nutcrackers do; some - even with the power to overturn it. How will it ever get to the point where sanctions are to be lifted or even eased?

If all of that is true, I give Putin credit for being a schemer and a powermonger, but smart? He's dumber than a tin can if he thinks this is what politics and international relationships is about.
