You're not from the same town as me are you? Because Teen Suicide just played here, and Attic Abasement is from here.

Bands and labels you oughtta check out:

Alex G; Great sad pop music, he's on tour with Teen Suicide right now.

QUARTERBACKS: A bunch of short and sweet songs.

High Pop: Probably the most similar to Teen Suicide. High Pop is a bit more abrasive and classic rock influenced than the above bands.

Elvis Depressedly: One of the most consistently great bands, with an equally great band name.

I'm a big believer that exploring a labels catalog is a great way to find new music and support people who are as obsessed with music as I am. Here are some you might fancy.

Run For Cover Records: Elvis Depressedly is on this label. It's hard to go wrong with their artists, especially the likes of Adventures and Seahaven.

Miscreant Records: One of my personal favorites, they've put out the likes of Comfy and Jawbreaker Reunion.

Double Double Whammy: Frankie Cosmos, Mitski, LVL UP, etc. can all be found on this label.

This kind of music is what I live and breathe, despite listening to a lot of other music. There are so many corners of it to be explored and I'm still looking everyplace that I can. That's just a sampler, maybe you've already heard of some of it but either way it's great stuff.

This is gonna my evening cuz it's raining and shit here. Got an Evelyn Waugh book and a blanket, and some kind of growth coming out of the side of my face too but I'm pretending that's not there.

so i have half decided to move out to philly by the end of this year. i spent a month out there and saw a few shows and met some rad people, it felt like i could make a home there. like i could find some family there.

alex g is great great great. his sound has a nice combintion of sadness and vaguely punkish discontent. and i feel similarly about elvis depressedly.

yo and thanks for the label info. i hadn't really realized that frankie cosmos was on double double whammy. love her deeply. you guys might like porches who happens to be frankie cosmos' boyfriend. they are my favorite power couple.

super thanks to you for all the rad input. glad to see someone else with passion about this stuff.

Philly has a great scene from what I've heard. I'm not nearly as familiar with it as I am with the scene in New York, Massachusetts, and parts of Ohio.

re: Frankie Cosmos. Zentropy was released on Double Double Whammy, however, she has since been picked up by Bayonet Records which is a new label that was started by one of the guys from Beach Fossils.

Porches are another great band. They have a cool documentary too, I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it. And you're welcome viceroy, I get really excited when other people are into this kind of music.

well i think that is what is so magnetic about this music scene on the east coast, you know, it has the benefit of big cities and easy transportation, but still feels small and inclusive and approachable. plenty of great philly bands play in new york, and vice.

hmm beach fossils is rad! thanks! this has been a good way to spend my day off. i have so many tabs of music open right now, waiting to be heard.

oh shoot, really? did they shoot the documentary themselves? i'll definitely look for it.

I'm from NYC but I gotta rep Philly. Crazy crowd, chill downtown area and just rough enough around the edges. Definitely a fun experience.

Thanks a ton for the suggestions! I'll definitely be checking those out throughout the day. A good friend introduced me to this kind of music, and I've loved it since I first heard it. Glad to know there are others out there who are just as into it as I am.

I'm not from the northeastern US; I guess it's just a coincidence that I really enjoy bands from that region.
