Meanwhile those inches are going to have a massive impact in Antarctica since it lets more sea water under the shelves.

The faster it melts in Greenland, the faster it melts in Antarctica.

Happy 02/02/2022.

Snow day. My daughter is skipping virtual school and we are going skiing.

Good God, a runny nose.

I am so happy to hear that you dodged a second and unnecessary surgery! I can't imagine the anxiety.

Let's hope that like donating blood, draining out a little CSF is good for you. I'm sure there's little to no downside from draining, aside from the horror of it and the risk of infection, of course.

You cousin was right enough?

Happy Hanukkah, lil!

The session that I add leaves is going to make or break this one.

I went to a visitation last night. It was my late father's friend. Sometimes you are a proxy for the dead. She was a good soul.

Stepping up to the urinal at the funeral home, I had a moment of deja vu and realized it was the same place my grandfather's viewing was at about 23 years ago.

I am having a time with Swift. It just hasn't clicked for me yet.

Sorry about that. Our frontend server had aged, as well as the SSL certificate autorenewal software.

forwardslash spun up a fresh and new frontend server. That then led to a login cookie bug, which he fixed.

We could have an ancient and stable app if the web didn't require us to keep up with it.

I entertained that route about 20 years ago for almost 2 years, and of those that I was aware of that were doing the same, I don't think it worked out for any of them. I agree with you.

That said, there is something going on atm regarding NFTs, that is of real interest IMHO. The theory is that artists are going to be able to link their work to non-fungible tokens and in doing so, will be able to capture more value over time and build a better relationship with their audience. It's very early times, so there is plenty to doubt and be cynical about. However, I do believe the theory will be proven correct in time. If you are creating, I'd seriously look into experimenting with them. Currently, it seems that the number of sincere artists doing so is small, but growing. There's fertile ground there and the current economy for art is ineffcient AF.

I used to pile as much relish, mustard and onions on my 7/11 hotdog for the calories. I'd even do ketchup and I don't like ketchup. But the eggrolls tasted better, and sometimes I'd give in.

File under: who gives a shit

I started exercising in earnest again after a weak effort that started sometime in February after my fingertip healed. It isn't something that gets easier with age. I find it easier not to eat than to exercise, but beer really likes the midsection, and if I wanted to, I could be one of those big belly skinny guys.

Our chocolate lab Winston is almost 1 year old, and he has his testicles for just two more days. I feel badly for him. He's a good boy, and I hope he doesn't interpret it as some sort of message.

In just over two weeks we'll be headed back to the cottage, where I can put the stove in the sauna, and fire it up.

mk  ·  1067 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Pubski: June 9, 2021

I started in on a new painting. It's of some copper mining related ruins in the UP of MI. Just putting in the shadows and base layers atm.

Last week we were at the cottage, and got everything done with the sauna except for the stove and chimney, which I'll install in July. It's being manufactured by a metal-working guy up there.

The stove will look like this:

All of that breezeway wood is reclaimed wood from a local scrapyard. I got this much for $150:

Better ROI than $DOGE, I think. I am going to be building with it for a while. I am making a bench atm.

The cedar OTOH, holy fuck.

I've got a lot of shit going on. I usually do, but I have a lot of shit going on for me. I need to put some things down before I pick anything else up. Not a complaint.

Let them wear shorts! It will be ok.

” In children, the average body temperature ranges from 98 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit. So while there are some children who may have a higher average body temperature during the day than others, this one degree does not make a difference in protecting children from the effects of significant cold exposure,”

This is wrong. It has nothing to do with body temperature. It is their higher metabolism and smaller size that makes them more cold tolerant. Doc should know better.

Having a president that I don't have to worry about my daughter listening to is a huge improvement.

I am also tired of the negativity. There are problems everywhere. There will always be problems everywhere. Politics aside, Trump was tiresome and annoying. Every national conversation was diminished by his pessimism.

We're going to do an outside Thanksgiving gathering. The weather looks permissive.

2200 deaths in the US recorded yesterday. The numbers are going to be awful mid-December. I saw someone tweet that we should forgive school debt for nurses. I agree. I think we should give anyone working in hospitals a massive 2020 tax credit too. Not just the nurses, technicians, doctors, janitors, etc.

My second session of my current painting:

I'm happiest with the very bottom, where there was snow amidst the green grass. I'll probably leave that as is.

Covid is probably a contributor, but I am feeling the urge to leave the neighborhood for the countryside. We have a wonderful city lot. I am spoiled. But part of me want to walk outdoors and not hear a road. Maybe it will pass when people aren't an infection risk.

We call it oppression and brainwashing when the Chinese government feeds its people propaganda and lies, but we consider it to be freedom when the meal is served by the private sector in the US.

Congratulations, buddy. This warms my heart. I don't expect that this will be the end of you working on your own ideas, and I am sure that you are going to bring them more value than they anticipate. If they don't find you to be an incorrigible ass, that is. You have a clarity of vision, base of knowledge, encyclopedic memory, and humility that makes you a very strong scientist; it was always a joy to postulate and hypothesize and bullshit with you. They probably aren't going to pay you enough. Your notes are shit though. Turn over a new leaf (I tried and failed).

Godspeed. Let me know how it goes. Let's have a Zoom beer.

I think a lot of it rides on how clear the margin is on Nov 3. Florida should have final results on Nov 3. If Biden carries Florida, then it will be clear that Trump has lost. In fact, Biden could very well have more than 270 that night. Of course, Trump will cry foul and say that there was massive fraud, but he doesn't have a lot of options at that point, and everyone except most of his base knows he is full of shit. The talk will just be centered around his concession. If Biden pulls off something crazy and wins Texas, then Trump is being compared to Jimmy Carter and he is toast.

If Trump wins Florida, then I suspect chaos. He will then do everything in his power to call the election at the current counts and stop further counting. It won't be easy for him to do, however, the media probably won't maintain discipline and will follow Trump into a crazy place.

Of course, Nov 3 is still a very long way away.

Biden should be in Texas. Young people are voting in droves in Texas.

Edit: Apparently Bloomberg started spending money in Texas yesterday.

Here are some pictures of the sauna. It's still in progress:

I am paneling the foyer with rough cut wood that I got at a salvage yard nearby.

I built that door with some storm window panes and 2x4s. I'm pretty proud of that.

It's snowing now! Here's the view driving into town this morning:

Be careful with power tools!!!

That's the least grisly photo I have. The fresh cut version is pretty horrific.

The first paragraph sounds great. Then they go on to say that law enforcement should always have a backdoor.

This basically says strong encryption can be used for child porn so strong encryption shouldn’t be available.

Even funkier than I remember.
