I would like to think it is possible to do both. I haven't figured out how to do it myself yet, but with time who knows?

I work for a non-profit where I earn less than I would elsewhere simply because I think what I am doing is important. I've worked at for-profits before but didn't feel like what I was doing was making a difference to anyone but the CEO's pocketbook.
