This is a pretty cool test, and the imgur album basically explains what the various things mean. You answer a few questions about the world and you'll get a placement on the spectrum, which is far more versatile than a simple left/right line.
This test is ridiculous and incorrect at a fundamental level. You cannot conceptualize political ideologies as things that exist in ratios of adherence to a single quantifiable set of principles. The reason is because political ideologies all hold different principles and different interpretations of the same principles. A libertarian and a Marxist, for instance, see "equality" as completely different things, and so do not share the fundamental ground required to place them both on a single hypothetical chart with "equality" as an axis. Furthermore, political beliefs always exist within a cultural context that can differ from place to place. For instance, this compass sees support for LGBT rights as being integral to libertarianism, when really this is only true of Western political cultures. In East Asia, LGBT rights don't make any sense because they already don't care if you are gay; Chinese and Japanese social conservatism expresses itself through a desire to uphold entrenched Confucian social relationships and traditions, not to police "sinful" sexual deviance.
Man, I haven't seen this in a while. I definitely like the idea of expanding beyond the common binary system of political affiliation. People's beliefs are too diverse to be captured by the simplistic left/right distinction. For example, I have a friend who identifies as conservative, but who tends to align more with the standard liberal narrative on issues like climate change. If anything, I think the Political Compass doesn't go far enough in picking out dimensions of political belief. It's a big step in the right direction, but splitting beliefs along the lines of fiscal and social issues is probably still too simplistic.
Well, according to that chart, in relation to another chart from an entirely different test I took...I'm a liberal. Which is weird, considering I kind of identify as a socialist (and to anyone that asks me in reality, as an independent, because #murika) So from what this imgur gallery is telling me, according to another site I frequent (that I will only identify as /pol), I am everything that's wrong with the world. ...fuck.
This test is designed to trick people into thinking that they are libertarians. It's an ideological recruiting device that comes from a misunderstanding of politics as existing on a narrow continuum.
I average a 2.5,-4, so just barely libertarian but puts me well to the right of most people my age (especially in the place where I live). I'm pretty okay with that, as it's not too far from where I identify personally, but at the same time, I think that the layout destroys some of the ways these various labels can interact.
This is really interesting, I've been looking for a more standardized system of political placement (although I understand this isn't perfect) . I was placed in the area around Libertarian Socialism and Syndicalism.
Yeah, I saw it just the other week and it's a very cool concept, though obviously not infallible. I was personally around anarcho-collectivism, and the other resources on the site have actually caused me to go out and read further about the various systems.
