I would love a limit on the Tags page (maybe one that works like the hubwheel selectors on the Chatter page) to ignore tags with fewer than x uses, with a default that favours older tags.
For people like no-cheating this would mean that older but more established tags are more likely to show up, as a gentle introduction to the wider use of tags.
For miserable fuckers like me it would mean that I don't have to contemplate single post droppings like #floorproducts, #vinylflooring, #laminateflooring, #windowfurnishing.
And as a cherry-on-top bonus can the tags page ignore all the tags created by users I have ignored? E.g. that guy I have ignored but his tags still show up in the New Tags and Recent Tags section like pestilent boils.
Question: I don't recall ever seeing info on how to best tags - although I have seen suggestions from time to time (including the suggestion to get rid of tags). If anyone has time to find all the various suggestions on how to create the best tags etc perhaps the collective wisdom could add the info to the #newtohubski material available in various places. I like your suggestions, complexity, regarding future implementations - but if for the next while the tags page is essentially the same - how do people best get their good stuff to a larger group through tags? I suppose I should make this a separate post at some point.
Noting this. forwardslash insomniasexx The new site displays things a bit differently, and some of these ideas could be incorporated.
Another unintuitive thing I noticed about tags is that they are case-dependent: #hubskiliterarything works as expected whereas the easier to read and hand-formatted #HubskiLiteraryThing exposes me to grues. I would never expect tags to work that way; or at least I'd expect the input on the URI to be lowercased throughout to avoid that sort of confusion. But that's just me. I mean, there would be never any need to differentiate between #books and #Books.
I think it might be nice to link somewhere on the tags page to another list - all tags ever used. It's helpful (and reduces mess) when you create a post and are not sure how to tag it. That could be expanded by giving auto-completion on +post page in the tag field.
I forgot to shoutout mk in the above. Edit: Ignore markup issue. PEBKAC.
