The findings described violate everything about the scientific research method. Research is a purposeful, precise and systematic search for new knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, or for the re-interpretation of existing knowledge, skills, attitudes and values.

One of the most important lessons I learned about writing research papers was that you can find just about any amount of information to support your theory. The object of the papers was instead, to analyze the information and form your theories. It sounds like some of the writers of scientific journals have forgotten this lesson.

I had a funny physics prof who once said:

If you give a great physicist a set of data, he can say: "Exactly! Here's why..." and if you then give him a completely contradictory set of data he can say: "Exactly! Here's why..."
