The degree to which PR firms are able to manipulate the mass media is unsettling. Did you notice the "deliverables" they're offering?

> construct negative narratives of OWS for high-impact media placement

> a state- and district-specific [advertising] placement plan (including all mediums) based on political targeting

> message testing, ... and targeted social media monitoring

I love this Opposition Research deliverable:

Our opposition research work at this stage will produce an analysis of OWS backers and funders, extremist leaders, policy positions, and rhetoric for the development of strategic polling and messaging. The research will also identify opportunities to construct fact-based negative narratives of the OWS for high impact media placement to expose backers behind this movement.

This is what fuels the news these days. Narratives. It's all messaging and marketing. It's all they know. It's no mistake that OWS isn't keen on message. It's more difficult for these groups if you don't play their game.
