This article is right on the money. However, it is still often instructive to give a job applicant an incomplete, or even impossible problem to solve - not to see if they can solve it, that doesn't matter much. You want to see if they can discuss the problem with you; can they communicate effectively? With this approach, it doesn't help them much just to memorised the textbook answer, as they need to really understand that textbook answer, to be able to discuss it intelligently.
