it is good for making electronics and fishing weights. pure gold is non-reactive so it can be used in food.

Ah, but that only means that it has innate properties that are valuable to us, which is a distinction worth making.

does anything have innate "worth" then. it seems worth has to be a externally given quality.

I'd be inclined to agree that nothing, technically, has innate worth. I mean, gold is very useful as a conductor in a lot of electronics, but even then that merely relegates the "value" to another location - i.e. gold is valuable to us because, say, we use electronics, but electronics also have no intrinsic value, and so on.
