However, I have two questions for you Hubskiers:
1) Why do roleplaying games retain a social stigma, when video games are so popular across age groups?
2) Do you think the stigma associated with rpgs is diminishing?
In other words, the subculture is growing.
I'd like to think that the stigma is lifting; but I have friends that are still very uncomfortable talking about rpgs in mixed company where they'd easily talk about a game of monopoly. Maybe talking about Settlers of Catan would be different? I have friends that won't play Magic the Gathering in public. I wonder if 'geek' or 'nerd' is best defined by someone that is willing to pursue their interests regardless of social norms. It's a pity that a certain number of people need to approve of even a mundane pastime before many will partake.
