I don't know enough about modern jazz. I know its history, I know the types to an extent, and I know the famous names -- I just haven't heard enough jazz. This was good - I think? No basis of comparison. I enjoyed it.

Haha, yes, definitely good. The interesting thing about modern jazz is that it takes the principle from Jazz Fusion of using moods and textures over melodies, but still has a melodic backbone. There's a young group in NY who are doing this kind of thing and it's pretty hip.
