on Reddit, I think that comments that are already on top tend to get way more upvotes. So just picking whatever's there is a likely win. And if everyone knows everyone's doing that then it gets stuck in a loop where winning karma is easy but it's not related to the actual content but maybe it could work! I really think quality is mostly down to how cool the active people are moreso than comment ordering anyways.
